O: Auto Tag Order & Customer Alternative for Shopify: Count Tags or Count Orders?

👉 Tag orders and customers without counting tags: Install Taggify ‑ Customer & Orders on the Shopify App Store →
Search "auto tag orders" on the App Store and the first real tagging app you hit is O: Auto Tag Order & Customer, the app most people still call Omega Auto Tags. It's Built for Shopify, it has 4.9 stars across 85 reviews, and it's been around since 2017. We make Taggify, a competitor with 4.7 stars across 12 reviews, so weigh everything below knowing who wrote it. The honest short version: both apps tag orders and customers well. They just send you a bill for different things.
What each app actually counts
Here's O: Auto Tag's pricing as its listing reads today (September 29, 2026). We don't link to a competitor's install page, so search the App Store for it and check us.
| Plan | Price | Order tags / month | Customer tags / month | Past orders |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 | 100 (+100 product tags) | 100 free, then $10 per 1,000 |
| Basic | $7.99 | 1,000 | 1,000 | 100 free, then $8 per 1,000 |
| Standard | $13.99 | Unlimited | Unlimited | 100 free, then $7 per 1,000 |
| Pro | $16.99 | Unlimited | Unlimited | 100 free, then $5 per 1,000 |
Workflows are unlimited on every plan. Unlimited tag removals and delayed tagging are Standard features; dynamic tags and the Shopify Flow connector sit on Pro (the Flow connector is also listed on Basic).
And ours, from our own listing the same day:
| Plan | Price | Processes / month | Overage | Past orders included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 | $0.05 each | 1,000 |
| Basic | $5.99 | 200 | $0.04 each | 1,000 |
| Professional | $9.99 | 1,000 | $0.03 each | 1,000 |
| Enterprise | $19.99 | Unlimited | — | 1,000 + 10,000 past customers, dynamic tagging |
So they count tags written. We count records processed: one new order or one updated customer coming through the queue and checked against every rule you have, however many tags it ends up writing.
Why the meter matters more than the sticker
Take one ordinary order. It's a repeat customer, paid by card, shipping to Canada, with a discount code. A sensible setup tags that order repeat, intl-ca and discount-used, and tags the customer vip because they just crossed your spend threshold.
On our meter that's one process. On a tags-per-month meter it could be three order tags and one customer tag, depending on how the app counts. Their listing doesn't spell out whether "100 order tags" means 100 tag writes or 100 tagged orders, and that single word decides how fast a free or Basic plan runs out. Ask their support before you commit. It's a two-minute email and it's the only number that matters on the lower plans.
Once you're on O: Auto Tag's Standard plan at $13.99 the question goes away, because tags are unlimited. That's a fair price for unlimited, and if you do real volume it's the plan to compare against our $19.99 Enterprise, not their free tier against ours.
Backdating: the part that surprised us
This is where our own listing moved since we last wrote one of these. Every Taggify plan, including Free, now includes 1,000 past orders processed. O: Auto Tag includes 100 and charges $5 to $10 per extra 1,000 depending on plan.
If your reason for installing a tagger is "I have two years of orders and no segments," that difference is real money on day one. If your store is new, it's worth nothing and you should ignore it.
Where O: Auto Tag is ahead
Three things, and they're not small.
It tags products as well as orders and customers. Taggify doesn't touch product tags at all. If you want out-of-stock or low-stock products tagged automatically, that settles it in their favour.
It has a Shopify Flow connector and prebuilt workflows, including an AI helper that drafts a flow from a description. If your team already lives in Flow, that fits how you work.
And 85 reviews at 4.9 is a much bigger sample than our 12 at 4.7 (one of ours is a one-star, and it's still there). If review volume is how you de-risk an install, they win that comparison.
Where Taggify fits better
Rules with real logic: AND/OR conditions across product, collection, order total, payment gateway, shipping address, customer tags and browser language, with exceptions so a rule skips specific customers. Triggers on customer create, customer update, order create and order fulfilled, so a tag can land when an order ships rather than only when it's placed.
The predictable-bill case: if you write a lot of tags per order, a process meter stays flat while a tag meter climbs.
And the history case above.
How to pick in five minutes
Open your admin and look at last month's order count. Then write down the tags you'd want on a typical order.
Few orders, one or two tags each, no history to backfill: either free plan works. Pick on whichever rule builder you like more.
Several tags per order, a few hundred orders a month: price O: Auto Tag at Standard ($13.99) against our Professional ($9.99, 1,000 processes).
Product tags or heavy Flow use: take O: Auto Tag. Years of orders to backfill on a small budget: take us.
FAQ
Can I run both apps at once? Yes, and it's a decent way to trial. Just never let two apps manage the same tag name, or one will keep adding what the other removes.
What counts as one process on Taggify? One order or customer evaluated against all your rules. An order that matches four rules and gets six tags is one process.
Do tags stay if I uninstall or downgrade? Yes on both apps. Tags live on the Shopify record, not inside the app. What stops is new tagging.
Does Taggify tag products? No. Customers and orders only.
Count your orders, count your tags per order, and decide whether you need product tags. That answers it.
