AOD Auto Tags alternative for Shopify: one free rule vs 100 free orders

👉 Tag customers and orders with as many rules as you need: Install Taggify ‑ Customer & Orders on the Shopify App Store →

Type "auto tag customers" into the App Store search and AOD Auto Tags Customer & Order usually sits at the top. It's been on the store since 2019, it has 4.7 stars from 28 reviews, and it does what the name says. We make Taggify, which competes with it, so read this knowing who wrote it. Short version: AOD limits how many rules you get. We limit how many orders we process. Which one costs you less depends on your store, not on the price tag.

The two price lists, side by side

AOD's listing as it reads today (October 20, 2026). We don't link to a competitor's install page, so search the App Store for it and check us.

And ours, from our own listing the same day:

Professional$9.991,000$0.03 each1,000
Enterprise$19.99Unlimited—1,000 + 10,000 past customers, dynamic tagging

We don't cap rules on any plan. A process is one new order or one updated customer checked against every rule you have, however many tags it ends up writing.

Why "one rule" runs out fast

Most stores don't want one tag. They want wholesale on B2B customers, vip on big spenders, intl on overseas orders and subscription on recurring ones. That's four rules on day one, and AOD's free plan holds one. So for most merchants the real comparison is AOD at $12.99 against whichever of our plans covers your monthly order count.

If you take fewer than 100 orders a month (customer updates count as processes too, if you tag customers), our free plan covers it with every rule you want. Between 200 and 1,000 orders, our Professional plan is $9.99. Past that, AOD's flat $12.99 is cheaper than our overage, until you move to Enterprise at $19.99 for unlimited. So a busy store with simple rules can come out ahead on AOD, and we'd tell you that.

Backdating your order history

AOD puts bulk tagging of previous orders on the paid plan. One older review (from 2020, so it may well have changed) said the bulk run worked in small batches and needed the browser tab kept open. Ask their support how it works today before you rely on it for a big backfill.

Every Taggify plan, Free included, comes with 1,000 past orders processed. The backfill runs on our server in a queue, so you can close the tab and check progress on the Activity screen.

Where AOD is ahead

It's simple. One rule, one tag, done. If all you want is "tag every order that contains product X," the free plan does that and you never need to think about meters.

The flat price is predictable for high-volume stores. $12.99 doesn't move whether you take 500 orders or 5,000.

And 28 reviews over six years is a larger sample than our 12. One of ours is a one-star, and it's still there.

Where Taggify fits better

Rules with real logic. AND/OR conditions across product, collection, order total, payment gateway, shipping address, customer tags and browser language, up to 10 conditions in one rule. Exceptions let a rule skip specific customers. Triggers on customer create, customer update, order create and order fulfilled, so a tag can land when an order ships, not only when it's placed.

Many rules on a small store. If you need six segments and take 80 orders a month, that's free on Taggify.

And the history case above, if your store has years of untagged orders.

How to pick in five minutes

Open your admin and check last month's order count. Then count the tags you'd want.

One tag, any volume: AOD's free plan.

Several tags, under 1,000 orders a month: Taggify, Free to Professional.

Several tags, several thousand orders a month: price AOD Basic at $12.99 against our Enterprise at $19.99, and decide whether AND/OR logic, exceptions and the fulfilled trigger are worth the $7.

FAQ

Can I run both apps at once? Yes. Just never let two apps manage the same tag name, or one will keep removing what the other adds.

What counts as one process on Taggify? One order or customer checked against all your rules. An order that matches four rules and gets six tags is one process.

Do tags stay if I uninstall? Yes, on both apps. Tags live on the Shopify order or customer, not inside the app. Only new tagging stops.

Does either app tag products? Taggify doesn't. It tags customers and orders only. AOD's listing describes order and customer tags too.

Count your orders, count the tags you want, and the answer falls out.
